ACTRA

A Performer will be invited by the union to become an Apprentice Member if they receive one qualifying work permit. This includes work permits in a residual category under an ACTRA agreement (ex. principal, acting and stunt roles).

Performers may apply to become an ACTRA Additional Background Member if they have worked in ACTRA jurisdiction for 15 days over a 12-month period. Background vouchers are required as part of the application process.

DGC

If you are an active Alberta Registered Permittee and have worked a minimum of 90 workdays on 3 different Alberta Signatory productions, you qualify for Membership.

If you are not an active Registered Permittee, your application will be evaluated to assess your level of relevant experience. You will need 150 workdays, and a minimum of 3 productions in a position equivalent to a category represented by the DGC Alberta. The same applies to those who are already a Member of another Guild/Union and wanting to become a Member of the Alberta DGC. Visit website for more info

IATSE

To start, visit our website or IA 210 (Edmonton). The tab “Apply Here” on the home page, will direct you to the online application and a list of all the departments (Film) and skill categories (Stage) represented by IATSE Local 212. Applicants are asked to review the requirements prior to submitting their application. Depending on the department(s) you have applied to, your name may be added to other required courses or waitlists. You will be contacted by education to register for any courses required to process your application.

ICG

Trainee Program: This will be the start of your career in the film industry, working your way towards full ICG 669 membership that includes benefits and more. The union members you work with during this program may be the ones that could hire you in the future! You will experience a diverse training journey that ranges from high budget features to a low budget movie of week. The trainee phase is dedicated to becoming a 2nd Assistant Cameraperson in the Union. On average, most Camera Trainees graduate from the program in 1.5 – 2 years, depending on the buoyancy of the film market. Equity and diversity are embraced at ICG 669. An open and diverse community fosters the inclusion of voices that have been underrepresented. All qualified candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Direct Application: To join ICG 669 applicants must show they have the necessary skills and experience. Applicants considering a career with ICG 669 are encouraged to research what it takes to succeed in the field they are interested in, talk to people who work in the industry, and take introductory courses. Membership is not the first step in a career in the motion picture industry
