Movies are not shot in the sequence they are viewed in. Among their other challenges, editors have an organizational task. They must sort through all the shots efficiently and assemble a logical final cut. Sound editors do the same for the audio components of a film.

Editors control the pace, tension and emotional impact of a film or TV production. This gives editors great input into the artistic side of the production. So the job is a fascinating balance between technical skills and artistic talent.

The supervising editor runs the department and works closely with the director and producer to produce the final cut. The editor oversees the day-to-day operations of the editing room. The editing room can be a busy place as editors specializing in sound effects, music, dialogue editor and music add their contributions.
